School Counselor Corner
Our school counselor, Sharmelle Martin-Mauser, is an essential helper in our school, dedicated to guiding our students—from preschool through fifth grade—toward bright futures.
She works with students to boost their academic skills, manage emotions, and build social relationships.
In Lorain City Schools, we follow a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) , a comprehensive framework that integrates school safety and crisis management. This holistic approach prioritizes the needs of students, providing them with the necessary support at different levels.
Much of the support for our students is Tier I and can be handled by highly qualified school personnel, like Ms. Martin-Mauser or the elementary social worker, Laura Gooch-Brown. Both can refer students, when needed, to Tier II and Tier III support, which are specific, targeted interventions coordinated with specific organizations that can provide extensive support services.
This support model is tailored to meet the needs of each student, ensuring that everyone can thrive in school and life.
